Harry Potter fans rejoice as three spin-off films are confirmed to be in the works

The news was confirmed by Warner Bros yesterday.

YESTERDAY, WARNER BROS. announced details of their production slate up until 2020. Among the announcements came the news that the upcoming Harry Potter spin-off Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them will be the first in a trilogy.

Warner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara announced details of the spin-off yesterday, stating that Rowling is working on what is currently envisaged as a trilogy of films. Tsujihara further stated that more films beyond the trilogy were a possibility.

Release dates are provisionally slated for 2016, 2018 and 2020.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is based on a fictional textbook written by Rowling in 2001.

Set 70 years before the events in the Harry Potter series, it follows the adventures of Newt Scamander, a “magizoologist” and member of Hufflepuff.

The trilogy will be directed by David Yates, who previously directed the final four films of the Harry Potter franchise.

The news was met with exclamations of, “I can’t breathe!” from fans.

JK Rowling previously teased the film after she tweeted some hard-to-decipher anagrams earlier this month and confirmed that she was currently working on the first film.
